“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”    1 John 3:17-1

This year during the season of Lent we are launching a mission focus that will be intergenerational in scope.  Elder, Kelley Wilson, went to Haiti as a missionary from the church to explore ways that we, as a church family, can expand our global mission focus.  On Sunday, March 5 at 10:15am in the sanctuary Kelley will give a detailed report of her experience in Haiti and will show us video and photos of the work that we can be involved in through Real Love Haiti.  We will not have our regularly scheduled Sunday school classes for adults that day so that all of us can hear the ways that we can be involved as a church family.

As you know, Lent is a season of sacrifice.  Jesus gave his life for us on the cross and Lent is a 40-day journey of reflection that leads us to the cross and to the good news of the resurrection.  This year we want to be intentional in the ways that we can give of  ourselves and of our resources to care for the poor in Haiti.  Kelley will be sharing tangible ways that we can all be involved:  children, youth, and adults.  We will also be challenged to pray that God would call at least ten adults to go on a mission trip to Haiti this fall.  In addition, we are challenging our church members to give sacrificially to help raise at least $5,000 to help pay for the ministry expenses for each participant ($500 per person) who answers the call to serve in Haiti this fall.  If we exceed our goal, the excess money will support the building of a school for the orphans.

Each week in worship all of us will have the opportunity to bring forward our offerings – money to support our $5,000 goal, and tangible items that we are collecting to send to Haiti.  We will also highlight an area of ministry for us to be in prayer for as we dedicate our gifts together. This a great opportunity for us to be challenged to do God’s work – to share God’s love not just with words or speech but with actions and in truth.  Please make every effort to join us on Sunday, March 5.  This will be a wonderful way for all of us to serve God and God’s people together!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Jeff
