Lenten Worship Opportunities at FPC Boone

Sermon Series and Lenten Study

During the Season of Lent we will be reading stories of Jesus through the gospel of Luke.  Our sermon series is entitled, “Meals with Jesus,” as we explore Jesus’ interactions with different folks over shared meals together.  As we center ourselves during Lent, I encourage you to intentionally read the gospel of Luke devotionally each day.  I recommend ordering, Lent for Everyone – Luke, Year C by N.T. Wright.  This devotional book provides a daily reflection through Luke’s gospel that will enhance our spiritual formation during Lent.  You may order it on Amazon here.

Ash Wednesday

Worship Service: Wednesday, February 14, 6:15pm
Pancake Dinner, 5:15-6:00pm
Drive Through Ashes under Portico, 12:00-1:00pm

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent in the liturgical church.  Ash Wednesday is centered on our confession of sin and need for repentance before God.  Together we reflect on our mortality as we receive the sign of the cross on our hands or foreheads, remembering, “From dust we have come and to dust we shall return.”  (Gen. 3:19).  This service prepares our hearts to walk with Jesus through the 40 days of Lent as we journey with him to Jerusalem where he will be arrested, crucified, and will rise from the dead.  Join us for a pancake dinner before the worship service begins.  If you are unable to make it to our service and would like to receive the sign of the cross, please drive through the portico between noon and 1:00pm and Pastor Jeff will meet you outside.

Palm Sunday

Sunday, March 24, 10:30am

Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem starting Holy Week for the Christian Church.  We begin by waving palm branches, shouting “Hosanna” (save us) as Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey.  This is our joyous celebration declaring that Jesus is King and comes to set us free from our sin.

Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service

Thursday, March 28, 7:30pm

Join us as we carry out the mandate of Jesus to carry on the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.  This worship service follows the last night of Jesus’ time with his disciples, from the Last Supper to his betrayal, arrest, denial, and mockery.  As we follow Jesus’ journey into darkness, our worship service will begin to become dim until the Light of the world is arrested and taken from us, leaving us in darkness.

Good Friday Worship Service

Friday, March 29, 12:00pm
Rumple Memorial Presbyterian

Join us for this joint worship service with Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church, as we reflect on the horrific events of Jesus’ crucifixion, as we read about Jesus’ death on the cross for us.  This 30 minute worship service remembers the noon time crucifixion and allows for anyone who is able to take a lunch break from work to meditate, pray, and confess our need for Christ’s love and grace displayed on the cross.

Easter Sunday Worship Service

Sunday, March 31, 10:30am
Fellowship Celebration at 9:30am

Join us for a celebratory covered dish breakfast prior to worship at 9:30am in the multi-purpose room.  We encourage you to bring a dish to share as we joyfully celebrate the good news of Easter together.  Following our celebration we will gather in the sanctuary for a service of worship at 10:30am in which we will worship the Risen Lord, praising God’s victory over sin and death.  We will reclaim the cross together as a symbol of life, as we place beautiful spring flowers upon it as a part of our service.
