Position Description

Position: Pianist

Supervisor: Senior Pastor in Conjunction with Worship Committee Chair

Hours/Week: 10 hours per week/as needed

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work in close collaboration with the Pastor, Chancel Choir Director, Chancel Choir, Worship Committee, and others involved with the music ministry of the church.
  • Meet with the pastor, and Chancel Choir Director when necessary to plan hymns, choir anthems, responses and benedictions, for upcoming Sundays. Be a resource to the pastor.
  • Attend Worship Committee meetings and actively participate in the discussion and activities. Notify the Moderator of Worship when you cannot attend.
  • Provide piano music at regularly scheduled Sunday services and select music of worthy quality and appropriate for use in the service.
  • Provide piano music for other scheduled services such as Love Feast, Christmas Eve, Tenebrae, Lent; and special services such as marriages, and funerals upon request.
  • Provide rehearsal time for vocal and instrumental soloists and groups.
  • Submit music in a timely manner to the Church Administrator, titles of music, and other desired information for inclusion in the bulletin.
  • Be encouraged to teach private lessons, not only to increase the supply of musical people available in the church, but also as a community service.  Schedule times of lessons and use of facilities so as not to conflict with church program needs.
  • In consultation with the Chancel Choir Director and the Worship Committee, monitor and recommend appropriate actions for the tuning, maintenance and necessary repairs for the organ and piano.
  • Secure the services of a qualified substitute when on vacation or absent for other reasons.  Notify the Pastor, Moderator of Worship, and the Chancel Choir Director as soon as possible, preferably two weeks in advance.
