Advent Devotions 2020

Isaiah 9:2;6-7

The people walking in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
    a light has dawned.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

The season of Advent prepares us for great joy, for the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. The Prophet Isaiah reminds us that a light has dawned amidst the darkness. Certainly, this year has had its fair share of darkness for so many. But hope lies just ahead as we prepare to welcome our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. May the light of Christ shine brightly on us all this Christmas season!

Micah 4: 1-5

I often forget how fortunate we are to live in the beautiful mountains of the High Country. It is easy to take for granted the breathtaking views and grandeur of this amazing place. I feel closer to God here, where God’s creation points to God’s power and magnificence. But this is not as good as it gets. In the last of days, all of God’s people will “stream” to God’s “highest of the mountains” like they do to the High Country for the Wooly Worm Festival. There is room for all on this Mountain, and I cannot wait to take it all in.
