2024 Lenten Mission Focus

This year, for our Lenten Mission project, we are focusing on Guatemala this Lenten season. Our high school youth, led by Shawn Huntley, will be traveling to Guatemala June 9-15 to share Christ in word and deed. They are partnering with Next Step Ministries (an organization that I have worked with in my years of youth ministry) who has a partnership with Breaking Cycles Guatemala. Breaking Cycles focuses on sharing the gospel by helping those impoverished with breaking the negative cycles that hold them back.

Our students will be working together to build a home for a family out of block construction. In fact, our mission goal is to raise at least $15,000 to build six homes this summer (one home costs $2,500). Next Step Ministries seeks to build six homes each summer as different youth groups from all over the United States travel to serve. Our efforts will provide the means to improve six families living conditions there. Should we exceed our goal, additional funds will be used to support Breaking Cycles efforts to care for these families in a number of ways.

Over the next few weeks in worship you’ll get a chance to hear about the many ways that Breaking Cycles is caring for least in Guatemala. Our goal is not only to participate in a short term mission experience but to develop a long term relationship with the people and ministry there. We encourage you to bring tangible gifts of school supplies and vitamins as an offering during worship during Lent that will be taken and given to the families there. If you’d like to make a monetary contribution, a basket will be placed up front in the sanctuary to place your gifts in. Checks should be earmarked “Lenten Mission.” Together we can shine the light of Christ in Guatemala as we support our students efforts to share the good news of Jesus this summer.
